Profiled sheets of all types and sizes. Choosing a profiled sheet for a roof: a complete guide to choosing the “right” building materials. Bearing galvanized corrugated board

To select a brand of profiled sheet and calculate the need for this material for each specific object, you need to know what are the differences between types of corrugated board. Different brands of profiled sheets for roofing also have different specifications.

There are not so many main characteristics of a profiled sheet, including roofing. These are the dimensions of the profiled sheet for the roof, its thickness, as well as geometric dimensions and the shape of the surface profile.

Roof sheet dimensions

The highest quality profiled sheet is produced in accordance with GOST 24045-94. The standard regulates, to the nearest millimeter, the main dimensions of roofing corrugated board and all other technical characteristics listed above.

A very important advantage that roofing sheeting- sheet size. The capabilities of modern rolling mills, which produce profiled sheets, make it possible to produce products with a sheet length of up to 14 meters. Therefore, it is possible to purchase corrugated board for the roof, the dimensions of the sheet of which will maximally correspond to the dimensions of the roof of the building.

This is very important, since the use of profiled sheets of great length makes it possible to reduce the number of joints several times roofing. And this, in turn, greatly increases the tightness of the roof. If the length of the roof slope is less than 14 meters, then the roofing will not have horizontal joints at all.

Among other things, the consumption of corrugated board is also reduced, since short sheets of roofing are laid with an overlap of at least 200 mm.

Unfortunately, the larger the size of corrugated roofing, the greater the cost of its delivery to the site. Therefore, the profiled sheet for the roof, the sheet size of which is more than 10 meters, is made only to order. Most often, in the construction of residential buildings, corrugated roofing is used for roofing 6 m long.

The profiled sheet is easy to process and can be cut directly on the construction site with conventional hand tools for metal cutting. But most manufacturers of corrugated board accept orders for their products indicating the specific length of the sheets. The length of the profiled sheet for the roof is set by the control system of the profiled sheeting production line, and the profile cutting is performed automatically, without human intervention. The length of corrugated roofing can be from 0.5 to 14 m with a cutting frequency of 0.5 m.

Another important dimension is the width of the corrugated sheet for the roof. The standard width of rolled sheet steel, which serves as a raw material for the manufacture of profiled sheets, is 1250mm. But the width of the corrugated roof sheet that enters the receiving device of the rolling mill will be completely different.

It should be borne in mind that the higher the height of the wave or corrugation of the profile, the smaller the width of the profiled sheet for the roof. In particular, the width of the C8 corrugated sheet is 1200 mm, and the width of the H75 profiled sheet, made of metal of the same width, is already only 800 mm.

You need to know that the profiled sheet has two widths. One of them is a purely geometric value that can be measured with an ordinary tape measure. Another sheet size is called the "useful" and "working" width. This size of the corrugated sheet for the roof determines what part of the length of the roof slope the corrugated sheet will cover, taking into account the vertical overlap with the adjacent sheet in the same row. So, with a full geometric width of C8 corrugated board of 1200 mm, the working width of the sheet is 1150 mm. This moment is very important to take into account when calculating the amount of material required for the installation of roofing.

The thickness of the corrugated board for the roof

The thickness of the profiled sheet for the roof is a very important characteristic of the roofing. Profiled metal sheet is made of metal with a thickness of 0.45 to 1.2 mm. The reliability of the corrugated board and the service life of the roofing directly depend on the thickness of the metal. The thicker the metal, the greater its strength and the longer it can resist corrosion.

But the thickness of the profiled sheet for roofing significantly affects the cost of corrugated board, since the greater the metal content of any material, the higher its price. Therefore, the decision on what thickness of the profiled sheet for the roof to be used in each specific case is made on the basis of calculating the load on the roofing, taking into account economic considerations.

The thickness of the corrugated board for the roof also affects the weight of the corrugated sheet. One of the generally recognized advantages of a profiled sheet is its light weight and, as a result, the ease of installation of this material. The use of thicker and heavier corrugated board increases the complexity and cost of its installation.

In addition, if a thicker and heavier profiled roofing sheet is laid on the roof, the weight of the material itself will additionally increase the load on the supporting structures of the building. Depending on what thickness of corrugated roofing is chosen, architects calculate the strength of the truss system. Therefore, any changes in the weight of the roofing during the construction phase without an appropriate calculation are highly undesirable.

Dependence of the characteristics of corrugated board on the shape of the profile

As mentioned above, the thickness of the corrugated roofing significantly affects the strength and reliability of the roofing. But the main thing on which the bearing capacity of a profiled sheet depends is the shape of its surface profile. The higher the wave height of the profiled sheet for the roof, the greater the load it can withstand.

A profiled sheet is a building material that is manufactured in the form of separate metal sheets, which are specially designed to cover any premises in order to protect them from precipitation, wind and other external factors.

This item is made from galvanized steel. using the cold profiling method, after which the surface of the sheets acquires a wavy shape.

Profiled sheet is one of the highest quality and durable materials. and therefore the demand for its acquisition and use in the process of building structures is gradually growing.

The profiled sheet is more rigid, durable and its range is much larger compared to the profiled sheet.

The corrugated board is characterized by a high degree of sound absorption, but when finishing the roof with a profiled sheet, it is necessary to additionally use soundproofing materials. Also due to the fact that the corrugated board is a rigid structure with complex terrain- this allows it to be used during installation at any height, and it can withstand heavy loads.

In fact, corrugated board and profiled sheet are the same material, only the profiled sheet is most often called the roofing material, and the corrugated board is a universal coating.

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages of the material on the face:

 • profiled sheet has great stability when exposed to corrosion, ultraviolet radiation and precipitation.
 • Thanks to the presence of sliding properties, snow or dirt does not remain on the roof, but immediately flows off it.
 • Long service life of the material - about 50 years.
 • Can be installed easily and without problems without much experience in construction.
 • Versatility in application.
 • Nice appearance.
 • Environmental friendliness and profile safety. At high temperatures no toxic compounds are released.
 • Minor weight simplifies the process of transporting the profiled sheet to the construction site.
 • Affordable price for the purchase of a profiled sheet allows you to purchase it at an average cost.
 • Provides reliability and leakage protection.

Profile Disadvantages:

 • material in sunny weather gets very hot.
 • Poor sound insulation- a pronounced sound from rainfall on the roof.
 • If the installation of construction work is carried out unprofessionally, then roof seal may be compromised..

As you can see, the disadvantage is a minority, and this allows us to talk about the versatility, high practicality and functionality of the material.

Types of profiled sheet for roofing and choosing the best

The bearing type is designed to create partitions and wall decoration. You can buy it for a small price, as well as place an individual order when you need sheets of a certain size.

With it, you can not only build some elements of the building, but also easily repair the roof, finish the facade, its walls, ceiling, and even build strong fences.

When calculated per square meter, this material has low weight and good strength.

The wall profiled sheet has a rectangular or trapezoidal profile with a polymer coating, or it can be galvanized. If walls are made from it, then they will be much lighter in mass than structures made of reinforced concrete. It is convenient and easy to cut a wall profiled sheet if you need to do facade or cladding work, install load-bearing elements, and also make decorative metal structures.

Quite often, sheets are made with a thickness of about 0.75, 0.8, 1 m. The dimensions of the profiled sheet for the roof depend on the area on which they are planned to be installed, purpose, loads and climate.

The width of the profiled sheet depends on its brand, for example, for the HC35 brand, the width of the profiled sheet is 1060 mm, and the height is 35 mm. Accordingly, the height will be from 0.5 to 0.8 mm. If you chose the H75 sheet grade, then the sheet width will be 800 mm, the profile height will be 75 mm and the metal thickness will be 0.7-0.8 mm.

 • HC44. This brand can be used for any construction and installation work.

Roofing from a profiled sheet: calculation of the number of sheets

To make a calculation of the material for the roof, you will definitely need information about the dimensions of the material used and the roof. To start it is recommended to start with the calculation of the truss system.

You also need information about the estimated weight already finished construction, and the values of the cross section of the beams, taking into account the material of the coating.

The main components of the truss system are logs and bars that are intended for the construction of the roof frame. done after calculating the load on the roof, which takes into account the weight of the roof, its coating and its own weight.

This is done to provide for all possible roof loads. In addition, the load calculation includes the weight of the workers that will be involved in it and strong gusts of wind.

Attention!

To calculate the coverage and truss system, use our! After the calculation of the total load, the calculation of the number wooden beams that distribute in a certain direction at angles.

Installation roofing cake is done like this:

 1. They take a counter-lattice and install it on the surface of the truss system. It can be attached between the bars if the roof from the profiled sheet is gable, hip or multi-gable.
 2. Waterproofing materials are placed on the insulation.
 3. For a profile sheet, you need to install a crate, taking into account the gaps for ventilation.
 4. Roofing profiled sheets are laid out.

The use of profiled sheets is quite diverse and ensures a long service life. Thanks to this material, it is possible to make both separate structures in the form of fences, and to carry out the installation of a roofing roof pie. Unlike corrugated board, it has many advantages that make it indispensable in the construction process.

Today one of the most popular roofing and facade building materials is a professional sheet, the sizes and colors of which are provided in a wide range. In this article, we will explain why corrugated board has become so popular, and how it differs from similar building materials on the market.

1 Advantages and disadvantages of different brands of corrugated board

Over the years, the professional sheet has proven itself well. It is worth noting the following advantages of corrugated board:

 • simple and fast installation;
 • resistance to corrosion;
 • light weight and high strength;
 • aesthetic appearance;
 • low cost.

The corrugated sheet consists of:

 • bases - steel sheet;
 • zinc and phosphate anti-corrosion coatings;
 • polymer and ground coatings.

The profile sheet has its own marking, by which you can find out what type of work it is intended for. There are three main types building material:

 1. Wall or facade with product marking “C”, used for finishing areas with a small external load.
 2. Universal "NS", suitable for any external and internal finishes.
 3. Roofing “H”, designed mainly for the construction and finishing of the roof.

Sometimes manufacturers change standard markings to those specially designed for their logos, for example, MH, PK, as indicated in the technical specifications for these products.

2 What are the standard profiled sheet parameters?

The generally accepted and most demanded in construction are such dimensions of rolled metal, which provide the greatest convenience during transportation and the least laboriousness during installation. Typical sheet sizes include:

 • material length;
 • overall (overall) and useful width;
 • sheet thickness;
 • height;
 • sheet weight;

Usually the most popular are the lengths of 3 and 6 m. The uniqueness of the material lies in its manufacture from a rolled type of metal, therefore, at the request of the customer, the length of the product can be almost any. But with a length of more than 12 m, some properties of the corrugated board may be lost.

For different type assembly, it is customary to purchase sheets, taking into account the nuances of the structures being built. It must be remembered that the overall and working width differ by an average of 50 mm due to the technology of laying products “overlapping” (overlapping on one wave). Therefore, to calculate the optimal amount of material during transportation, the overall width is taken into account, during installation - the working one.

The thickness of the profiled sheet corresponds to the thickness of the source material - galvanized sheet. Standard material is considered to be from 0.5 to 1 mm.

The choice of wave height (stiffening ribs) depends on the installation options and the expected mechanical load on the building material, also taking into account the weight of the sheet and its working width. Naturally, the strength of corrugated roofing will be higher than that of the wall, because the loads it can withstand are many times greater.

3 Roofing profiled sheet - dimensions of sheets for the roof

The profile sheet began to be widely used for roofing, due to its advantages over ondulin and tiles - lighter weight and high strength provided by stiffeners. Roof decking, the sheet sizes of which are the same for all manufacturers, complies with the generally accepted GOST or approved technical specification (TU). These standards allow the use of this building material for any type of building: industrial buildings, temporary facilities, large buildings.

The distinctive dimensional characteristics of the material for the roof are the thickness of the metal and the height of the stiffener. Given these indicators, there are several popular brands for the roof:

 1. PK 20 with rib height 20 mm, total width 1140 mm.
 2. PC 35, where the height is 35 mm and the total width is 1125 mm.
 3. NS 44 and PK 45 with a wave height of 44 and 45 mm, respectively, and a total width of 1045 mm.
 4. H57 - height 57 mm and width 1050 mm.
 5. H75 - 75 mm and 800 mm, respectively.

For all these brands, profile sheets of various lengths are produced. Depending on the configuration of the floors and the roof itself, lengths from 0.3 to 12 m are used. Also, this building material, in addition to the total width, has another important indicator - the working width (less than the total to 50 mm, depends on the size of the profiled sheet).

The external load that the material must withstand depends directly on the thickness of the sheet steel coil used. The thicker the sheet of metal and the higher the wave (rib) of stiffness, the greater the load the material can withstand. Roofing corrugated board with a thickness range from 0.4 to 1 mm is in the greatest demand.

This value is taken into account in the design of buildings and significantly expands the scope of building material. A load table specially created for design engineers facilitates calculations, which affects the price of the project, significantly reducing the cost of it. The thickness of the corrugated material affects another important technical specification profiled sheet - sheet weight.

Small specific gravity building product has become one of the reasons for its popularity.

4 Wall profiled sheet - dimensions and weight of profiled steel

And facades are used when facing buildings, creating a layer of insulation and internal partitions. The most common is a profiled sheet, the dimensions of which are as follows: sheet width 1–1.2 m and wave height about 20 mm (for grade “C”).

The thickness of the metal sheet varies from 40 to 80 mm. The smallest rib height currently produced is 8 mm. Wall decking is designed for exterior finish walls and interior work. There are also materials with a rib height of 10, 15, 17 and 21 mm. Sheets with ribs over 21 mm are considered universal. By individual order, some companies produce corrugated sheets with a thickness of less than 8 mm.

The popular and useful width for walls is 1090–1150 mm, and the C15 brand is popular in a width of 0.8 m. The latter is often used for. Wall corrugated board weighs much less than roofing. This indicator varies from 4.45 to 8.37 kg of both 1 linear meter and a square of usable area.

Corrugated sheets of hot rolled steel are produced with or without a protective layer. The dimensions of the roofing corrugated board allow you to choose the optimal parameters for use in a particular case.

This material has different characteristics

Waves on the surface of the material are made rounded, square, trapezoidal and other shapes.

The coating is distinguished depending on the type of corrugation, the width of the product, the base and the type of protective film.

The concept of material

Upon receipt of the metal-profile material for the roof, two operations are used. The first procedure consists in rolling the formation through rollers, as a result of which corrugated undulating protrusions are obtained on the surface. The profiled shape increases the rigidity and strength of the coating.

During the second operation, the strip is cut to the size of a profiled sheet for the roof. The length and width are determined by GOST standards or are made according to the individual request of the customer.

Division into species

Decking is used not only to create the roof of houses, but can also be installed in the construction of canopies, on the roof of utility blocks. To reduce the cost, create optimal operating conditions, sheets are produced in various modifications.

In this video you will learn how to install the roof:

Depending on the source material of the base, the raw materials are divided into types:

 1. galvanized sheet obtained by rolling - does not have a letter designation;
 2. thin-sheet galvanization, which received an aluminum coating during the rolling process - is determined by the letters AC;
 3. aluminum or rolled products with protection from this material - marked with symbols A or AK;
 4. stainless steel with the application of an electrolyte layer of zinc - described by EOCP.

To cover the structure, a roofing profiled sheet is used. The dimensions of the sheet in this case are produced in multiples of a segment of 250 mm. In this case, the total measured length can be 3, 6, 9, and 12 m. Individual orders can be made with a strip length of less than three meters or more than twelve.

Other criteria are used to distinguish the material:

 • installation area - canopies, domes, horizontal fences of residential buildings;
 • waveform - apply any kind;
 • corrugation height - for roofs take an indicator over 43 mm;
 • sheet width - the size of 0.93-1.2 m is ideal for roofing;
 • base thickness - choose a value greater than 0.5 mm.

Protective coatings

Different layers are applied to the sheet to provide saving properties. This indicator affects the life of the roof without repair. Coatings are produced in various colors, their types can be combined, enhancing the mutual action. Protection is of the following types:

 1. The polymer components in the compound prevent corrosion and destruction. The finishing layer is placed on one or two sides. To improve performance, several films are applied.
 2. To avoid damage to the roof from ultraviolet rays, acrylic is used. Reliable protection will stop the destruction for 30 years when operating in sunny areas.
 3. Plastisol film is obtained by the interaction of polyvinyls and plasticizers. This layer, together with the fracture protection, allows the sheet to be bent without cracking. Products are used when covering domes, arches. Small flexible elements of the roof are made from the material, gutter structures, boxes are made.
 4. Pural coating on the surface of the material is applied when the roof decking is exposed to the harmful effects of chemicals. The resistant layer is obtained by a combination of polyamide components and polyurethane. The protection actively resists cracking during repeated freezing and thawing cycles, withstands indicators from -30 to + 70˚С.
 5. Innovative armor has been used in recent years. It consists of polyvinylidene fluoride and is used for high-quality protection of the sheet base from all destructive factors at the same time. The film does not decompose when bent, exposed to moisture, ultraviolet, alkaline and saline environments. The threshold of frost resistance is defined as minus 60˚С.

roofing application

Material with the letter designation H is used. Roofing corrugated board, the dimensions of which according to the standard correspond to a width of 930-1200 mm, are mounted with an overlap on one protruding wave. When calculating the number of strips, it is taken into account that the width involved is 60-90 mm less than that indicated in the dimensions (the difference depends on the type of corrugation).

The material is fastened with self-tapping screws with special heads through the protruding wave to the body of the crate. They use a smaller thickness of wooden bars compared to the base for other types of roofing due to the lightness of corrugated board. To avoid leaks, put at the drilling site special rubber pads.

For professional design of profile joints, specialized welded units are used.

Due to the large length of the sheet, the roof is covered along the entire length of the slope without cross sections. Roofing profiled sheet, the dimensions of which can be selected in each case, is used for high arches, semicircular domes with long slopes. The design of curved joints is carried out with a profile with protection against cracks during torsion and bending.

When using a roof, there are some nuances

Positive and negative qualities

The construction of light buildings with a small base in terms of massiveness is common. These houses are built quickly, thanks to the low weight of the roof, the cost is reduced. In such variants, corrugated board remains an indispensable material for the roof of buildings, covering verandas, sheds, household blocks and outbuildings.

TO positive characteristics corrugated profile include:

 1. Excellent quality does not significantly affect the cost, these indicators are in the optimal ratio. For canopies with small requirements, inexpensive options are chosen.
 2. The low weight of the profile sheet in front of other roofing materials increases the demand for the material, the square of the layer tightens from 7 to 13 kg. This significantly reduces the requirements for the foundation and the bearing capacity of the wall fencing.
 3. A wide range of colors and types for the choice of the consumer. Modern coatings imitate wood, stone, marble and other natural materials.
 4. Strength and rigidity avoid sagging of the coating on large runs. Because of this quality, it is sometimes not necessary to install additional bars for rigidity.
 5. With a non-standard color or imitation of a certain texture on the roof, all small connecting elements on the roof are made from the same material.
 6. Due to the ease of installation of the sheets in the installation position, lifting equipment is not needed. Two workers are required to lift from the ground and the same number of people receive the product on the roof.

The few disadvantages of the profile include the high sound of the surface when exposed to falling objects, such as small stones or rain. Jumping birds bring a lot of trouble. Their movement is comparable to drum roll. To eliminate this drawback, a layer of mineral wool is used. for soundproofing.

At the point of damage to the protective film, for example, when sawing the material, an area prone to corrosion occurs. Such surfaces and sections are treated with special compounds to restore integrity.

Types of profiled sheet and dimensions

Before buying material for installation in a roofing pie, they are interested in what width of the profiled sheet is on sale, and they make a calculation on the possibility of its use. The store may offer to deliver desired view corrugated board in a short period at the request of the customer. Standard sizes material in accordance with GOST 24045–1994:

 • profiled sheet C 21-1000 - thickness 0.55-0.77 mm, weight running meter 5.95-7.38 kg, the square weighs 5.95-7.38 kg, the strip width is 1.25 meters;
 • corrugated board C 44-1000 - 0.72-0.82 mm, the mass of a linear meter is 7.42-8.42 kg, a square meter weighs 7.5-8.5 kg, the width of the product is 1.25 meters;
 • material H60-845 - 0.6-0.8-0.9 mm, linear meter weighs 7.4-8.3-9.4 kg, square weight is 8.82-9.8-11.2 kg, width - 1.25 meters;
 • profile sheet H75 - 0.75-0.85-0.95, linear unit weighs 7.5-8.5-9.8 kg, square weight - 9.85-11.2-12.2 kg, product width is 1.25 meters.

Profiled flooring is produced not only under the terms of GOST, but also technical conditions (TU) are applied. For production use regulatory requirements TU1122-00.2-42.83-1956-02. Material characteristics:

 • corrugated board C15-11.50 - thickness 0.6-0.75 mm, weight of a strip meter 5.9-7.45 kg, mass per square meter 5.2-6.4 kg, sheet width 1.25 m;
 • profile C21-k - thickness 0.54-0.7 mm, meter tightens 5.85-7.52 kg, square - 5.86-7.35 kg, product 1.25 m wide.

film layer requirements

A sample of the coating of sheets made of aluminum, silicon, plastisol layer, polyvinyl defluoride, pural must comply with the standard requirements that are prescribed in regulatory papers and documents. The conditions for the quality of the base for the original semi-finished product have been developed. Paint layers on the surface are evaluated in accordance with GOST - 302.46. On the square finished product slight streaks, abrasions obtained when passing through the rolls are allowed, but they should not violate the basic integrity of the layer.

Dimensional accuracy indicators

To check the geometric parameters of each type of corrugation, special tables have been created. They indicate compliance indicators depending on the form. Limit deviations from the desired thickness of the profiled sheet must be within the allowable values without taking into account the coating layer. The parameters of the test indicators do not apply to the thickness of the material in bending places.

Each type of corrugation has its own meanings.

The difference between the width of the shelves on the sides of the sheet is allowed at least 2 mm. If the shelves are narrower, then markings are placed on their plane in the form of a longitudinal strip, color or in another way. Crescent along the length of the profile is allowed no more than 1 mm for a length of one meter with a total length of the strip up to six meters. If the length exceeds this value, then the allowable elbow is 1.5 mm per linear meter. The total defective indicator should not be more than the product of the number of meters and the permitted bending rate.

The waviness of the surface flat areas material is not allowed above 1.5 mm, the tuberosity of the limbs of the end shelves is not more than 3 mm.

Skewed sections of the profile should not contribute to the total length of the strip beyond the normalized standard and the maximum deviation in length.

Transportation over a distance

It is recommended to hire carriers who are experienced in handling long loads with care. When self-exporting, they use this type of machine, which allows you to securely fix the material throughout the trip. The strips are stored and transported only horizontally, while their entire lower surface is completely placed on the bottom of the car body.

After placing the material in the body, before the start of the movement, the pack is attached to the restrictive boards. This is done using slings, under which shock-absorbing material is laid in places of possible contact. The cables are positioned so that when moving they do not break the edges of the sheets and do not scratch the surface.

Cleverly suitable for securing when transporting material in a box with an open rear guard.

If the bottom of the body is sloping, the pack of strips may move and damage the surface. The resting part of the stack is two-thirds of the total length. This requirement will help to avoid the fracture of the bands in the process of motor load.

Strip unloading and storage

When lifting, it is not allowed to pull the sheet from the surface of another product. For this purpose, two workers unload the material so that they have the opportunity to lift the strip and move it to the appointed place. It is not allowed to step on the surface of the stacked pack. When lifting a sheet from a folded stack, it is desirable to give the product a vertical position to reduce stress and avoid fracture.

For storage choose a ventilated place. Not all types of material can withstand high humidity, so an air gap should be provided between uncoated profile sheets. It is best to order material for building a house just before it is installed on the roof.

Profiled sheet - modern, beautiful, durable and durable material for the roof. For accurate calculation required amount For this coating, you need to know the length, width and thickness of the sheet. In addition, information about the weight and load on the roof is needed. This will make it possible to correctly make rafters and other roof elements, as well as choose a brand of corrugated board that meets the operating conditions in the construction region.

Roof sheet dimensions

The main parameters of the profiled sheet are its length, width, thickness and height of the profile. All characteristics of profiled sheets are determined in GOST 24045–94.

Sheet length and width

There are full and useful length and width of corrugated board:

 • full length and width is the distance between the edges of the sheet. Length can vary from 3000 to 12000 mm (multiple of 250 mm), width - from 800 to 1800 mm. At the request of the customer, the length of the sheet can be made less than 3000 mm and more than 12000 mm;
 • the useful length and width of the sheet is the full size minus the overlap size. The length of the sheet is chosen so that it is equal to the length of the slope plus the size of the cornice overhang (200–400 mm). If shorter sheets are used, then the material will have to be laid with an overlap, which will reduce the level of waterproofing of the roof. Thus, when the total and useful length of the profiled sheet are the same, this the best option. The overlap in width is usually one wave.

Sheet thickness and profile height

For roofing, corrugated board with a thickness of 0.55-1.0 mm is suitable. Thinner metal will warp when exposed to snow, wind or hail. It can also be accidentally damaged during installation.

Profile height can vary from 8 to 75 mm. If a wall sheet, which, for example, can be used for the construction of a fence, can have a profile height of 8 mm, then corrugated board with a value of this parameter of at least 20 mm is used for arranging the roof.

Roofing corrugated board has a wave height of 20 mm, and at the junction, a capillary groove is often made on it to remove moisture

Types of profile and its marking

There are the following types of corrugated board:

 • wall. It is used for lining change houses, warehouses, car washes (indicated by the letter C);
 • roofing (H or PC). Used to cover roofs;
 • universal (SN). Suitable in both cases;
 • carrier. It is used for the construction of structures operating under heavy loads, and, like the roofing material, has a large profile height. Therefore, roofing corrugated board with a large thickness of metal can be used as a carrier.

Next to the letter is usually put a number indicating the height of the profile. Examples of such a designation: S-18 (wall corrugated board with a wave height of 18 mm), H-75 (roofing material, wave height of 75 mm), NS-60 (bearing profiled sheet with a wave of 60 mm).

A brief marking of a corrugated sheet contains data on its type and wave height

However, there is also a more detailed marking, for example: H-57–750–0.8 AD ML-1202 / ML-1203, where:

 • H - the purpose of the material (roofing);
 • 57 - profile height;
 • 750 - sheet width;
 • 0.8 - its thickness;
 • a further sequence of numbers and letters indicates the type of applied polymer coating. In this case, this is a double-sided spraying with different characteristics on each side. Sometimes, instead of data on the polymer coating, the length of the sheet is indicated.

When buying corrugated board, it should be borne in mind that the greater the height of the profile, the smaller the width of the sheet.

Despite the fact that in the practice of roofing work, different materials, experts advise choosing professional sheets NS (N) -60, N-75, NS-35. They have special stiffening ribs and are most suitable for protecting the roof.

The profiled sheet can be simply galvanized or coated with a protective polymer coating. Polymer spraying makes the sheet more resistant to weather conditions and increases the durability of the roof.

Calculation of the size and number of corrugated sheets for roofing

Recall that the useful length of a profiled sheet in the best option equal to its full length. Therefore, to calculate the required number of sheets, there is no need to calculate the roof area and divide it by the sheet area. This is done much easier: the width of the slope with a correction factor must be divided by the useful width of the metal profile sheet.

Calculate the number of sheets required for roofing for a conventional shed roof.

Shed roof allows you to most simply demonstrate the algorithm for calculating the number of sheets of corrugated board required for the roof

For example, let's take a roof with a roof slope width of 12 meters and calculate the required number of sheets of NS-35 corrugated board.

 1. We multiply the width of the slope by a correction factor of 1.1. This is necessary to take into account overhangs, waste and the possibility of damage to the sheets during transportation and installation. We get 12 ∙ 1.1 = 13.2 m.
 2. To determine the number of sheets, we divide the resulting value by the useful width of the sheet. Since the useful width of the NS-35 sheet is 1 meter, we divide 13.2 by 1 and get 13.2. The result is rounded up and we understand that for the arrangement of the roof we need 14 sheets.
 3. We consider the amount of corrugated board in square meters. This is useful for determining the cost of roofing material. We multiply the number of sheets by the length of the sheet (for example, 6 meters) and by the full width of the sheet (for sheet NS-35 it is 1.25 meters). We get: 14 ∙ 6 ∙ 1.25 = 105 m 2.

For gable roof a similar calculation must be carried out for each slope. If the slopes are the same, then the resulting value for one of them should simply be multiplied by 2.

If two or more sheets are still laid along the length, the calculation is made somewhat differently:

 1. We calculate the area of the roof. The slope has the shape of a rectangle, so its area will be equal to the product of the sides: S = 12 ∙ 6 = 72 m 2 (the transverse size of the slope, together with the cornice overhang, is taken equal to 6 m).
 2. We multiply the roof area by a correction factor of 1.1. We get S = 72 ∙ 1.1 = 79.2 m 2.
 3. We divide the resulting value by the useful area of the sheet. Let's say that sheets with a length of 3.5 m are used. Then the useful length will be equal to 3.25 m (25 cm is set aside for a longitudinal overlap). We calculate the useful area as the product of this value by the useful width (1 m): S floor = 3.25 ∙ 1 = 3.25 m 2.
 4. We calculate the number of sheets, for which we divide the total roof area by the usable sheet area: N = S / S floor = 79.2 / 3.25 = 24.37. So, we need 25 sheets of corrugated board measuring 3.25 x 1.25 m.

You can also make a preliminary calculation of the roofing material using one of the online calculators, of which there are quite a few on the Internet.

Profiled sheets marked "C" are cheaper than other brands. Therefore, they are often used for roofing. However, it is still better that in this case the angle of inclination of the roof be 45 o or more. With such a slope, the snow will melt quickly and water will not penetrate through the joints. In addition, when using sheet “C” for roofing, the sheathing must be made frequent or continuous.

roof sheet weight

Roof weight is one of key indicators, which should be taken into account when arranging it. It determines the pressure exerted by the roof on the rafters and load-bearing walls. When making calculations, it is convenient to operate with the weight of one square meter of material. Then, knowing the total area, you can calculate the weight of the entire coverage.

To the greatest extent, the weight of the profiled sheet is determined by the following factors:

Calculation of the weight per square meter of a profile sheet

The weight of a profiled sheet with a polymer coating consists of the weight of metal, zinc and polymer.

To carry out the calculation, we need some initial data:

 • steel density - 7.85 t / m 3;
 • zinc density - 7.12 t/m 3 ;
 • polymer density - 1.5 t/m 3 ;
 • polymer coating thickness - 0.05 mm (pural).

Z-1000,0208
Z-1400,0212
Z-1800,0260
Z-2000,0297
Z-2750,0405

The calculation is made according to the formula: M = t ∙ l ∙ h ∙ p, where t is the thickness of the material, l is the length, h is the width, p is the density.

For example, let's calculate the weight of a metal sheet with an area of 1 m 2 and a thickness of 0.8 mm with a Z-200 class galvanized coating and a pural polymer coating:

 • the weight of a square meter of metal without a galvanized coating with a thickness is 0.8 ∙ 1 ∙ 1 ∙ 7.85 = 6.28 kg;
 • the weight of the Z-200 class galvanized coating is 0.0297 ∙ 1 ∙ 1 ∙ 7.13 = 0.21 kg;
 • the weight of the pural polymer coating is 0.05 ∙ 1 ∙ 1 ∙ 1.5 = 0.08 kg.

Adding up all the results, we get 6.57 kg.

Overall weight per square meter roofing profiled sheet is in the range of 5.4–12.4 kg, but most often it fits in the range of 6.0–8.0 kg.

You can compare the weight per square meter of corrugated board with other roofing materials. It is almost one and a half times lighter shingles and four times lighter than slate.

Decking is one of the lightest roofing materials- it is almost four times lighter than slate

The weight of the roofing cake coated with corrugated board

The approximate weight of 1 m 2 of the materials that make up the roofing cake is:

 • profiled sheet - 6 kg;
 • hydro and vapor barrier made of a polymer membrane - 1.5 kg;
 • mineral wool insulation - 10 kg;
 • crate of boards 2.5 cm thick - 15 kg.

Adding all the above data, we get 32.5 kg. We use a correction factor of 1.1 - the specific gravity of the roofing cake will be 35.75 kg. Of course, it may vary slightly depending on the weight of the components, but with a standard thickness, load-bearing walls and rafters can withstand loads up to 250 kg / m 2. Thus, with average weights of roofing materials, we have more than a sevenfold margin of safety.

Strength characteristics of corrugated roofing

Roofing material must be durable, that is, withstand the load in certain conditions operation without breaking or deforming. Decking is much stronger than a flat sheet of metal of the same thickness. This happens due to the presence of a certain profile in this material. A profile with a higher height is able to withstand heavy loads. For example, for wall corrugated board C10-1200-0.6 with a support pitch of 1 meter, the allowable load is 86 kg / m 2, and for sheet HC44-1000-0.7 with a distance between supports of 3.5 meters - 182 kg / m 2. Professional sheet H75 makes it possible to make a gap between the supports already 5–7 meters and has no restrictions on snow load. Reducing the number of supports saves material for their arrangement and facilitates truss system. However, sheets with a high profile height are made of thicker metal, so they are heavier.

Maximum allowable loads

There are 4 options for the construction of corrugated board supports: one-, two-, three- and four-span. The width of the support at the point of contact with the profiled sheet must be at least 40 mm.

When constructing roofs, they can be used different schemes fastening of corrugated board with the number of support points from one to four

Calculation of the strength of the roofing and the choice of the grade of the profiled sheet

The total load on the profiled sheet consists of the pressure of snow and wind, as well as the weight of the deck itself.

For example, let's take the following data:

 • gable roof;
 • the angle of inclination is 35 about;
 • the size of the slope projection on a horizontal surface is 6 m;
 • the weight of a square meter of corrugated board is 7.4 kg (this is an indicator of sheet C21-1000-0.7). In terms of the load on the rafter system and load-bearing walls, as well as the price, it is quite suitable for us, but its strength remains to be seen;
 • construction is underway in the Moscow region.

The specific snow load is determined by a special map issued by the hydrometeorological center. The entire territory of our country is divided into 8 snow regions. In each of them, the normative snow load is considered the same.

The snow load map allows you to determine the pressure of snow on the roof in various regions of Russia

Table: the value of standard snow loads by region

The construction site is located in the third snow region. The specific snow load here is 180 kg/m 2 . Taking into account the type of roof and the angle of inclination, the load is calculated according to the formula 180 ∙ (60 о - a) / a, where a is the angle of inclination of our roof. It turns out 180 ∙ 25/35 = 128.6 kg / m 2.

The specific wind load on the roof is determined in a similar way. For this, there is another map, which also divides the territory of Russia into 8 regions.

The snow load map allows you to determine the wind pressure on the roof in various regions of Russia

Table: the value of standard wind loads by region

In terms of wind load, the Moscow region is in the first wind region, where the standard value is 32 kg/m 2 . Taking into account the slope of the roof, the aerodynamic drag coefficient will be equal to 0.3. Thus, the wind load on the roof in question is 32 kg / m 2 ∙ 0.3 = 9.6 kg / m 2.

We consider the total load on the roof. It is equal to the sum of the weight of the materials of the roofing cake, wind and snow load: W = 7.4 + 128.6 + 9.6 = 145.6 kg / m 2. According to the table of strength characteristics given above, it can be seen that the C21-1000-0.6 profiled sheet with an ultimate load indicator of 195 kg / m 2 is quite suitable for the roof in question. However, we do not recommend using a profiled sheet with the minimum allowable characteristics, but to make a larger margin of safety, as there are situations when there is much more snow than usual, and winds have a force that is much higher than the standard values.

Video: calculation of snow and wind load on the roof

The method of calculating the number of sheets of corrugated board considered in the article allows you to economically use the material and reduce the cost of arranging the roof. The characteristics of various brands of profiled sheets make it possible to choose exactly what is needed specifically for your building. Calculating the weight of the roof and its strength will make your roof reliable and safe for many years.
