A dish dryer in a cabinet and other design options are features of different solutions. DIY dish dryer How to make a dish dryer yourself

Dish drying cabinet is integral part built-in kitchen. Such a cabinet is usually located above the sink. Let's look at the design of the cabinet for drying dishes and the dryers themselves.

Types of drying racks

There are two main types of dish drainers that are built into dish cabinets:

Polymer-coated dryers, usually white

These are inexpensive dryers, which is called an economy option. This dryer is equipped with one tray for water draining from the dishes.

Dryers larger than 600 mm sag, and they are not durable; over time, rust begins to appear, and the tray breaks easily. Installation of the white dryer is simple; 8 holes with a diameter of 8 mm are drilled into which plastic bushings are installed.

Dish rack width

By drying width at 400, 450, 500, 600, 800, 900 mm. The size is given for the size of the cabinet into which the dryer will be built. That is, a 400mm dryer means that it will be installed in a 400mm wide cabinet.

There is such a nuance here, there are dryers that are installed either in a case made of chipboard with a thickness of 16 mm or 18 mm, and there are universal ones that are suitable for both 16 and 18 mm chipboards due to the use of special gaskets, pay attention to this when purchasing a dryer .

The optimal size is 600 mm, 400-500 mm is small, and 800-900 mm begin to sag under the weight of the dishes, and the dish drying cabinet itself turns out to be heavy when loaded with such a width.

Cabinet design for drying installation

In general, by design drying cabinet corresponds to an ordinary cabinet, except for the bottom of the cabinet. The fact is that there is high humidity in the dish drying cabinet and additional ventilation is necessary. To solve this problem, the bottom of such a cabinet is not made or is made in the form of two strips 100 mm wide.

Drying cabinet design with a bottom of two slats, they are made for cheap white dryers and for dryers that do not have a groove in the back for installing a back wall made of fiberboard.

In the design option without a bottom, the bottom is the lower part of the dryer, or rather its frame. That is, the drying itself provides the required rigidity of the structure. Although, in my opinion, this should be done when the drying cabinet is located between other kitchen cabinets. This should be done because the drying fasteners cannot withstand the weight of the dishes, and the drying body in the lower part begins to move apart.

For example, an interesting VARIANT dish dryer from Italian manufacturer VIBO. This dryer can be installed either in a cabinet with or without a bottom.

The minimum cabinet depth for drying is 283 mm. The drying design is based on an aluminum frame with a telescopic rear wall holder, which allows you to increase the depth of the drying body to 391 mm.

VIBO dryers, unlike the universal Rejs dryer, are sold separately for a body made of chipboard with a thickness of 16 mm and separately for a thickness of 18 mm.

The usual standard height of the crockery cabinet body is 720 mm and the depth is 320 mm. Of course, there are higher and lower and deeper. It is better not to do less in depth, otherwise the dryer may not stand up; if you do less, study the minimum and maximum limits on the depth of the body for installing the dryer. For example, as stated earlier, Vibo has a minimum case depth of 283 mm.

Installing a dish dryer in a closet

The first thing to do when drying installation This is to study the attached instructions, because there are slight differences when installing dryers from different manufacturers.

We had at our disposal a two-level 600 mm chrome dryer produced by Rejs, perhaps one of the best dryers on the Russian market.

Rice. 21. Drying chrome 600 mm produced by Rejs

Drying chrome is universal, both for chipboards with a thickness of 16 mm and 18 mm, due to the gaskets in the photo below. The kit includes euroscrews for fastening the plastic fasteners of the dryer, thin screws for fixing the telescopic parts in the lower part of the dryer, small screws for connecting the square rods with the plastic fasteners of the lower part of the dryer.

Dish dryer assembly was carried out according to the assembly diagram.

Initially, we drill holes with a diameter of 5 mm for plastic drying fasteners, the first hole from the edge is 69 mm, the height distance and the second point can be marked by attaching the fastening to the side wall or by taking measurements.

We insert square aluminum rods into the plastic fasteners, fix them with small screws to the plastic drying fasteners, and use Euroscrews to fasten the fastenings themselves to the side walls along the drilled holes.

An open stand or dish drainer is involuntarily associated with country style. But even in modern interior there is a place for this convenient device. Their purely pragmatic nature and lack of frills make dryers desirable assistants in the kitchen.

It is better if you put dishes there for everyday use, and not those that end up on the table on special occasions and only get covered with dust on other days. Instead of pulling out every time the right dish from the closet, you can remove it from the stand in one motion, where each item is in its place and therefore is not afraid of chips and cracks.

Today online magazine Ideas kitchen interiors I’m ready to talk about 13 options for the proper placement of a dish dryer.

Separate drying rack that hangs above the sink. This arrangement seems quite logical. The stand looks lighter and more open than a wall cabinet with doors, and you can stack plates on it after unloading. dishwasher very comfortably. The size and capacity of the dryer in the photo are no less impressive than its appearance in the center of the kitchen wall.

Dryer installed inside kitchen cabinet. If you have an odd space to work with and there's no way to place wall cabinets on either side of a separate plate rack, there's a practical way to maintain relative symmetry. The combination shown in the photo looks very harmonious, although it is located almost in the corner of the kitchen.

Dryer, which is part of the set. If you are ordering a set of wall cabinets with a dish rack, consider installing glass doors instead of regular fronts to create a more open and cohesive look. And don’t be afraid to show off all your dishes, because they don’t have to be uniform!

If the dryer is complemented by an open shelf, it will look less utilitarian.

Even an ultra-modern kitchen can afford the luxury of a built-in dish drainer. In our example, it is located between horizontal cabinets with glass fronts in an aluminum frame.

The important thing is that the plate stand can be hung at the same level as all the items in the set, without the risk of hitting the open cabinet door while washing dishes. They just have to be raised higher.

A drying rack that contrasts with the rest of the furniture. You can intentionally hang a stand that is radically different in color from the adjacent cabinets to add depth and intrigue to the interior.

The dryer in the photo is part of a symmetrical combination due to its location between two kitchen windows, although the lower part of the furniture set is not at all aligned with the upper.

This stand fulfills several characteristics that were mentioned earlier: it has a contrasting decor and looks very balanced, although it is not located in visual symmetry.

An elegant drying rack balances the substantial buffet cabinet on the opposite edge of the set. These two objects are completely different in shape and size, but subtly interact with each other.

Drying rack located low above the countertop. It's a great idea to make a plate rack part of an open shelf, which in turn is part of a wall cabinet that rests on the desktop surface.

This option is suitable for you if this area of the countertop is rarely used. It must be said that the combination of open and closed elements of various sizes looks more interesting than a row of identical wall cabinets.

The drying rack can become part of a convenient storage system if it is located between an open shelf and a spacious sideboard.

Dryer equipped in a niche. An unoccupied section of the wall above the fireplace and stove is ideal for arranging a spacious shelving unit. In our case, one of its shelves is a plate drying rack.

We couldn’t do without an example in which the plates on the shelf would not stand edge-on, but straight. This demonstrative way of storing dishes does not exclude the possibility of its regular use. A small recess in the wall may be sufficient to install a compact drying rack.

The dryer doesn't have to be in the kitchen. It can be hung in the pantry or in the hallway leading to the dining room.

A dish dryer in a cabinet is an integral element of the kitchen, which should be present in any room intended for preparing dishes and eating. Given the variety of models, types and configurations, for the right choice it is necessary to take into account quite a lot of nuances.

Simple, but at the same time sufficient original idea cutlery dryers

Types of dryers

There are several models of drying racks for the kitchen. Based on the installation method, they can be divided into four categories:

Dryers for installation on the sink.

The products are made of plastic or stainless steel and are mounted on sinks. They are distinguished by their low weight, simple design, but do not carry any special design load in the room. Simple models Designed for small quantities of dishes. It is always at hand, which means it is convenient to put not only plates, but also vegetables after washing. There are dryers on sale in the form of a lattice or mesh, as well as with a perforated surface.

Please note: you can buy a dryer made of metal and silicone. It can even be used for hot dishes.

Built-in dryers.

They are installed in a cabinet that stands on the floor and may have wall cabinets and drawers. Simple models have two tiers - for plates and mugs. Complex designs are also designed for other types of cookware.

Thanks to the closed drying rack, the dishes will be protected from dust. Many built-in dryers have trays into which dishes are placed directly from the sink. But this is not very good for the cabinet itself, because a large amount of moisture collects in it. The main dryer in the closet should always be supplemented by an auxiliary one, which is located near the dishwasher.

Tabletop dryer.

It is located near the sink, for example, on the countertop. A tabletop dryer can be of different configurations: collapsible and stationary, with two or three tiers, for appliances. Since the product will always be in sight, you need to choose a color that matches the style of the entire kitchen. When there is no wall cabinet above the sink, you can buy a drying rack with a lid; it will protect the dishes from dust.

Wall-mounted dryer.

It is mounted in a certain place at the desired height directly on the wall, you can also install it in a closet. The dimensions are selected so that the item fits into the free space.

The dryer can have one or two tiers. More complex models are often equipped with additional compartments: for example, if only plates can be placed in single-level dryers, all kitchen items will fit in a multi-level dryer.

Cabinet for dryer installation

Most the best option- installation above the sink or in close proximity to it, so you don’t have to make unnecessary movements when washing dishes. You can place the dryer in a cabinet that does not have a bottom: here the water immediately flows into the sink, and there is no need for a tray.

It is not good to install dish dryers in base cabinet: You will have to make a lot of unnecessary movements (for example, bending over to pick up dishes).

Kitchen cabinets and corners with a drying rack must comply with certain rules:

  • Ventilation. To prevent smell from appearing in the closet, you need to ensure good air circulation. It is enough to drill a couple of holes on the sides.
  • Distances. It is important that the distance from the dishes to the door is at least 30 cm, and from the tray to the lower tier - at least 7 cm.
  • Sealing the bottom wall of the cabinet. In order not to damage the headset, it is best to treat it with silicone; it will protect the materials from moisture.

You can also create the appropriate mood in the kitchen using correct selection color range dishes

Dish drying rack in the cupboard: materials for making drying racks

There are several materials from which dish dryers are made:

Metal. Typically, dryers are made of steel, which is then coated with an anti-corrosion coating.

It looks very simple, but is actually quite spacious and easy to use design of a metal dish dryer

Stainless steel dryer. This product will cost an order of magnitude more than metal drying, but the strength, durability and other qualities are worth it. You will not need to additionally paint the product, since no traces of corrosion appear on it.

A neat stainless steel dish drainer is suitable for a kitchen in almost any style.

Plastic. The cheapest dish dryers are made from this material. In addition, the material will be hazardous to your health. Appearance The product is lost very quickly, and deposits and streaks form on the drying surface.

An original plastic tabletop dryer in an unusual design will brighten the mood of your kitchen

Tree. Such a dryer has always been considered a luxury item, but it cannot fit into every interior. To ensure that the product lasts a long time, the wood is coated with special varnishes. It has been proven that wooden drying racks are best suited simply for storing dishes dry.

A neat wall-mounted dish drainer made of light natural wood will perfectly complement the interior in a neutral color scheme

Tip: today almost any dryer can be bought in a store or ordered online. Quality directly affects the cost of the product. Preference should be given to models that are made from natural and safe materials.

Classification of dish dryers

A traditional dish drainer has two compartments: the first holds plates, the second holds cups. Durable, water-resistant materials are used in the manufacture of system elements. For easy cleaning, the surface is coated with enamel or paint. A rubber coating can also be used, which reduces noise from the cookware during operation.

By type, dryers are divided into the following categories:

  • Independent models - produced as separate systems;
  • Models installed in kitchen furniture or at the bottom of the sink.

An open model of a dish drainer built into a cabinet in a kitchen in warm colors with the main emphasis on a bright red kitchen set

There are also open dryers; they need to be mounted on the wall above the sink or directly on the sink so that the remaining water that remains on the dishes as a result of washing flows into the sink bowl or into a specially designed stand.

Advantages of open dryers:

  • Installation can be done anywhere, by mounting to a wall or by conventional installation on another surface.
  • In operation, the products are characterized by undemanding and simplicity.
  • The models are cheaper than other types of dryers.

Dryers installed in furniture are divided into the following categories:

  • Single-tier. Only plates are dried in them;
  • Two-tier (two-level) - you can dry any utensils, except forks and spoons;
  • Dryers for special purposes - for dishes and cutlery.

Three-tier, built-in kitchen cabinet, dish drainer

Mounted systems

Such models have gained particular popularity and distribution. The wall-mounted dryer can be of two types:

Independent design;

Also, instead of a full-fledged drying rack, you can place a couple of shelves above the sink in the general style of the kitchen

A product built into kitchen furniture.

Almost invisible in the overall interior of the kitchen, a dish dryer built into the wall unit

Designs of the second category, depending on the shape and configuration, are:

  • With or without frame;
  • In one or two tiers;
  • Corner dish drainer.

The third option is interesting, however, really practical models (in which the dishes do not interfere with each other at the junction of the sides) are usually large, so the corner dryer is suitable for installation in large kitchen sets, with a large wall cabinet.

Small at first glance design corner cabinet with built-in dish dryer, in fact, quite practical and spacious

Built-in dryers must be mounted in accordance with certain rules. The main condition is a high-quality exhaust vent of the cabinet so that moisture does not accumulate inside, which harms the furniture. To provide good ventilation, two holes should be drilled on the opposite side of the cabinet. The best place for holes - on the sides of the cabinet, since the dishes will become dusty through the upper or lower holes.

Right choice dish dryers for the kitchen

Before purchasing, you should decide on the location of the product. After this, you need to measure the gaps to the wall. If you buy a model for installation in a wall cabinet, the dimensions are measured from the inside. The standard parameters of built-in dryers are from 400 mm to 800 mm, the most common option is a 60 cm dish dryer in a cabinet.

The combination of a closed cabinet to accommodate a dish dryer and additional decorative shelves outside along the wall above the working surface of the table - original solution for a small bright kitchen

The combination of a closed cabinet to accommodate a dish dryer and additional decorative shelves outside along the wall above the working surface of the table is an original solution for a small, bright kitchen

Dimensions must be measured very accurately. The distance between cups and plates plays a big role: the gap should be at least 300 mm. It should be taken into account that the compartment for cups is located in the upper part - this arrangement protects the dishes from water. The gap between the pallet and the lower section should be about 70 mm.

The presence of a tray is mandatory; it protects the furniture from water. It is advisable to have a dryer with a removable tray - it is easier to clean.

A fairly large dish dryer design with a pull-out tray for storing water

In small kitchen sets, dishes can be placed in pull-out dryers. They are installed in drawers located near the sink. The advantage of this option over others is that it is easier to remove dishes from it, since the product is located at the bottom and the drawers are easy to pull out.

A small corner in the kitchen for drying and storing various dishes - a convenient solution for rooms with large space

Regardless of what type of dryer is used, it must be remembered that the structure may break if overloaded. Thus, the 50 cm option is designed for 15 plates.

What is the difference between a fixed dryer and a removable model?

All dryer models have two mounting options: secure fixation or removable design.

A big plus of a removable dryer is the ability to rearrange it - if unforeseen circumstances arise, the product can even be placed on a table surface. Another advantage is ease of care; for washing and disinfection, you can simply take the dryer out.

Don't be afraid to experiment and show your originality. Try it various options to choose the one that best suits your interior

But the removable design can also be inconvenient, due to the discrepancy between the dimensions of the dish dryer and the cabinet - during operation it can move inside the cabinet.

However, most modern models dryers are adapted to the standard width of kitchen furniture. Non-standard sets are made to order; this usually happens when the dimensions of the furniture do not correspond to generally accepted parameters.

As for fixed dryers, they stay well in the cabinet, there is no possibility of the structure falling, and the dishes remain safe and sound. This is the main advantage of such dryers; according to other criteria, removable models are more practical option: the cabinet can be used for other purposes, the dryer (and the walls of the cabinet itself) are easier to clean.

Another important factor is the manufacturer. Domestic products are usually cheaper, but the quality of the models is practically no different from foreign products. However, imported dryers usually have a more sophisticated design, and are often characterized by a non-standard configuration.

The cost of the same model may differ in different stores, so choosing a dryer wisely also means monitoring prices. At the same time, you can buy a dryer in an online store; other things being equal, prices there are usually lower.

If you have a couple of free evenings, why not start making crafts for the kitchen and home? After all, you can create a bunch of useful or simply beautiful little things with your own hands from improvised, natural and even waste materials. In this material we presented 50 inspiring photos and 12 super ideas with step-by-step master classes for the production of decorative items, storage accessories, kitchen utensils and more.

Idea 1. Tablet stand made from a cutting board

Watching your favorite TV series on your tablet or peeking at a recipe book while cooking will become easier if you make a special stand for this from... an ordinary cutting board. Making this kitchen craft with your own hands will take no more than two hours, and it will be used every day.

To make a holder for a recipe book or tablet you will need:

  • You can use an old cutting board or buy a new one (wood is best, but bamboo will work). Its size should not be much larger or smaller than the tablet.
  • A small wooden plank, or better yet, a piece of molding (this is what will hold the tablet/book).

  • Another block of wood or plywood from which you can cut a sharp triangle;
  • Paint or stain in the desired color, for example, to match the countertop, facades or kitchen apron ;
  • Paint brush or staining rag;
  • Jigsaw or saw;
  • Wood glue or any other strong adhesive.

Instructions:

  1. Using a saw or jigsaw, cut your strip or molding to the desired size (the width of the board), sand the edges with sandpaper, then simply glue it to the bottom of the board.

  1. Cut a support for the stand from a piece of wood in the shape of an acute triangle with a right angle as in the photo below and glue it too.

The angle of inclination of the holder will depend on the inclination of the hypotenuse of the triangular bar

  1. Paint the entire piece following the paint manufacturer's instructions and leave to dry.

  1. If desired, the handle of the resulting stand can be decorated with jute rope or ribbon. This way, when the stand is not needed, you can hang it on a hook.

Also, the craft can be further decorated - for example, by artificially aging it as in this master class, by drawing inscriptions, by burning a design, or by covering it with slate paint. In the following selection of photos you can get ideas for decorating original cutting boards.

Idea 2. Jute coasters

If your kitchen (or, for example, a country or summer kitchen) is decorated in a rustic, Mediterranean, rustic or marine style, then you will probably like this kitchen craft idea. In just a couple of hours you can make coasters for plates for the whole family and guests with your own hands.

To make one substrate with a diameter of 33 cm you will need:

  • 10 meters of jute rope 1 cm thick (sold in construction and hardware stores);
  • Hot glue gun;
  • Scissors.

Instructions:

Just start rolling the rope in a circle, applying glue to small sections one by one and fixing them for a while. Once the mat is formed, cut the end of the rope and glue it down.

Idea 3. Organizer for cutlery and kitchen utensils made from cans

Tin cans cost nothing, but they are durable, easy to clean, and their shape is just right for storing all kinds of spatulas, ladle, forks, spoons and other utensils. If you put in a little effort and creativity, you can make a convenient and cute organizer out of them, which, even if it doesn’t fit into the interior of a city kitchen, will definitely fit in at the dacha. You can also use an organizer made with your own hands from cans to store tools, brushes, felt-tip pens and other small items.

Stand for spoons and forks made from cans

To make such a stand for spoons and forks, you will need:

  • 4 or 6 clean and dried cans, without lids or burrs;
  • Acrylic paint for metal or enamel paint (it will protect the cans from rust);
  • Several wood screws and a screwdriver;
  • Thick nail and hammer;
  • Furniture handle or leather strap with fittings;
  • A small wooden plank.

Instructions:

  1. Paint the jars inside and out and let them dry for one day.
  2. If necessary, saw the wood to the desired size, sand it, clean it and finally paint it (not necessarily to match the cans).
  3. Take a nail and a hammer and make a hole for the screw in all the cans.

Tip: To make this process easier and not damage the paint layer, place a small block on the table using a clamp, then wrap the block in felt and only then put a jar on the block (see the picture in the lower left corner in the next photo collage)

  1. Place the cans against the board and align them the way they will be mounted later. Mark the location of the holes on the board with a pencil.
  2. Make small holes in the board where the marks were marked, using a hammer and nail.

  1. Screw a screw into the hole of the first can to attach it to the board. Repeat the procedure with all remaining jars.
  2. Finally, install a furniture handle or leather strap on the end of the wooden board using the same self-tapping screws. Ready!

Here are a few other deco ideas and modifications to the design of cutlery stands made from cans.

Kitchen Decor Idea for Halloween

To make this craft you will need:

  • Base made of polystyrene foam, plastic or floral foam in the shape of a ball or other desired shape;
  • A trunk (a straight tree branch, a pencil or any other small stick);
  • Decorative elements for creating a crown: coffee beans, artificial flowers, pine cones, colored beans, etc.;
  • Decor to disguise the pot filler, for example, moss, pebbles or sisal fiber;
  • Flower pot;
  • Filler for a pot that will fix the trunk. For example, it will do cement mortar, still the same polystyrene foam or alabaster (the best option);
  • Thermal glue in a gun;
  • If necessary, you will need paint to decorate the trunk, base or pot. The trunk can also be decorated with ribbon or twine.

Basic instructions:

  1. To begin with, it is advisable to paint the base in the color of the crown elements so that possible bald spots are not noticeable. You can also paint the trunk and pot and leave them to dry.
  2. Cut a hole at the base of the crown, a couple of centimeters deep, for the trunk, fill it with glue and secure the trunk.
  3. Take the base of the crown and start gluing the decorative parts one by one. The principle of action at this stage is simple: first, large parts are glued, then medium-sized and, finally, small elements fill in the bald spots. You need to glue the decor quickly, before the glue is absorbed into the base.
  4. Dilute the mixture to fix the trunk in the pot according to the manufacturer's instructions and fill the pot with it, not reaching a couple of centimeters to the edge. Next, insert the barrel, hold it for a while and then leave it to dry for a day.
  5. Disguise the filling of the pot with a decorative “cover” (you can fix it with a little glue).

Idea 5. Serving board-tray

But the idea of an unusual serving board-tray, which, although not a cutting board (intended for displaying food only in dishes), can nevertheless be very functional. For example, it can be used to beautifully serve snacks, drinks (olives, pistachios, nuts, chips, etc.), sauces, honey, sour cream, jam. Thanks to the slate part, while the board is not being used for its intended purpose, it can simply be hung on the wall and used for writing.

To make this DIY kitchen craft you will need:

  • Board wooden thick 5 cm;
  • Stain of the desired color (for example, to match the countertop);
  • Sponge, rag or brush;
  • Chalkboard paint;
  • Two furniture handles and wood screws for fastening them;
  • Jigsaw or saw;
  • Screwdriver or screwdriver;
  • Ruler, pencil.

Instructions:

  1. Cut your board to the desired size using a hand/power saw or jigsaw. In this master class, the board is 60 cm long, but you can make it shorter or longer.
  2. Stain your board according to the manufacturer's instructions and let dry.

  1. It's time to paint the inside. To do this, first apply masking tape along the edges of the board to limit the painting area. Next, apply slate paint (in this case, you use paint in a can) and let it dry.

  1. Screw the handles to the edges of the board.

You can replace furniture handles with leather straps, paint the board in bright color, burn a design on it or attach two “legs” to its reverse side.

Idea 6. Stand for mugs and glasses

If you're the type of person who collects wine corks (either for fun or in the hopes of one day making something useful out of them), then you'll love this craft idea.

To make one mug stand you will need:

  • 8 corks (accordingly, to make a set of 4 stands you will need 32 corks);
  • A roll of cork board, mat or coaster (for cutting out the base of the coasters);
  • Hot glue;
  • Leg-split.

Step 1: Lay out your corks in pairs in a square format as shown in the photo below. Using hot glue, apply a bead of glue between the two plugs and press them together for 30 seconds. Repeat the procedure with all other pairs.

Step 2. Cut a square from sheet cork (board, rug) corresponding to the size of the future stand. Next, apply thermal glue on it, wait 15-20 seconds. and glue your blanks.

Step 3: Fill the gaps between the corks with glue and let it dry. For better adhesion of the glue to the corks, you can put some kind of press on the workpiece.

Step 4. Wrap the craft with twine and tie a knot.

Handmade coasters for mugs, glasses and glasses can be beautifully packaged and given to a friend

If desired, the stands can be made round, triangular or hexagonal by cutting off the excess with a knife.

Using the described principle, you can make such a hot stand with your own hands. By the way, an old CD will work as a basis in this case.

Idea 7. Wall panel

Another craft idea for the home and kitchen that you can make with your own hands from wine corks is a wall panel for decorating the interior and storing notes, memorable photos and postcards.

Framed cork panel from Ikea

To work, you will only need a beautiful frame (from a picture or a mirror), paint of the desired color, hot glue and a large pile of corks. Corks can be laid out in a herringbone pattern, in a checkerboard pattern, in even rows, and in other ways that you like. If necessary, for example, if there are not enough corks, they can be cut lengthwise or crosswise. To make the corks easier to cut, you need to soak them in hot water for 10 minutes.

Other interesting ideas manufacturing wall panels with your own hands.

Idea 8. Universal knife holder

Knife holder - very useful device for the kitchen, which helps keep your workspace tidy and keeps your knife blades sharp longer.

Making a knife holder with your own hands is very easy - just pick up a small vase and fill it tightly with bamboo/wooden skewers, colored beans or... colored spaghetti, as in our master class.

To make a knife stand, prepare:

  • A container or vase is the height of the blade of your largest knife. The shape of the container can be any, but without any bends;
  • Spaghetti, lots and lots of spaghetti;
  • Several large ziplock bags (or just large bags that can be tightly tied in a knot);
  • Alcohol (for example, vodka);
  • Liquid food coloring in the desired color (or several colors if you want to make a multi-color filling);
  • Baking trays;
  • Aluminum foil or old oilcloth tablecloth;
  • Paper towels;
  • Kitchen scissors.

Instructions:

  1. Make sure your container is clean and dry, then fill it tightly with spaghetti. When the container is full, remove the spaghetti and add a couple more bunches of pasta to the pile as a reserve (in case you make up for broken sticks).
  2. Divide the spaghetti evenly between the bags and pour enough alcohol into the bags to wet all the sticks. Next, add 10-40 drops of food coloring to each bag.

  1. Seal or tie your bags, then place them in extra bags to prevent leaks. Slowly shake and turn the bags to mix the coloring into the alcohol and pasta. Next, place the bag on one side and leave for 30 minutes, then turn the bag over again and leave it for another half hour. Continue soaking the spaghetti in this manner (no more than 3 hours) until it reaches the desired shade.
  2. Cover your baking sheet with aluminum foil, then a layer of paper towels (or oilcloth). To protect your hands from staining, it is advisable to wear gloves. Remove the spaghetti from the bags, after draining all the liquid, place them on a baking sheet in a single layer and leave to dry. From time to time, the spaghetti needs to be sorted to dry evenly.

  1. Once your spaghetti is COMPLETELY dry, start placing it in the container.
  2. Shake the filled container and smooth out the spaghetti. Insert your knives to determine the optimal filling density, adding pasta or removing excess if necessary.
  3. Now, using kitchen scissors or other very sharp scissors, trim the spaghetti to the desired length without removing it from the container (it's best to do this over the sink). It is important that the spaghetti does not exceed the height of the container by more than 2-3 cm, otherwise it will break quickly.

Idea 9. Jars for storing spices and bulk products

Today we will talk about an express technique for making a paper basket, which can be used to store small items (keys, stationery), yarn, and also for unusual presentation of fruits, easter eggs, bread or baked goods festive table or as a gift.

Even a child can weave such baskets quickly and easily

You will need:

  • About 15 sheets of thin A3 paper, cut in half lengthwise (this can be printer paper, a full sheet of newspaper, or even baking paper);
  • A container of suitable size with straight sides (for example, a jam jar);
  • Glue in stick;
  • One skewer;
  • Spray paint (optional).

Instructions:

  1. Starting at one corner, begin to roll the sheet of paper tightly around the skewer to the diagonally opposite corner to create an even and long tube. Once the tube is ready, add a few dabs of glue to the corner of the paper to hold it in place and remove the skewer. Do the same with all the remaining sheets. In this master class, 30 tubes were required to weave 2 baskets.
  2. If necessary (for example, if you used newspaper sheets) or if desired, paint the tubes with acrylic paint.
  3. Take an even number of tubes and connect them together as shown in the photo in the upper left corner. In this master class, for a basket the size of a jam jar, 6 tubes were required, for a larger basket - 8 tubes.

  1. Start braiding: Take one of the outer tubes (which is under the grate) and lay it over the adjacent tube, then pass it under the next tube, then run the tube again over the next tube, etc. Continue weaving by lifting the already entwined tubes vertically (from now on we will call these tubes stands).
  2. When 2-3 cm remains from the first working tube, increase its length. To do this, apply glue to the new tube and insert it into the remaining “tail”. Continue weaving over and over again, adding paper tubes as needed.
  3. Once you have weaved a base of the desired diameter (the same size as the container), place the container on it and begin weaving around it, pulling the stand tubes close to the walls.
  4. Having weaved the basket to the end, remove the jar and carefully wrap the end of the working tube into the weave.
  5. Tuck the ends of the posts inside the weave and trim if necessary. Next, you can spray paint from a can as in our master class.

Idea 11. Wall holder for towels and kitchen utensils

From an ordinary grater you can make such a convenient and beautiful holder for a towel and storage of kitchen utensils or even live or artificial plants.

From a flat grater you can make your own kitchen decor in a country, Provence or shabby chic style

To make a heated towel rail and a tray for small items you will need:

  • A grater (preferably an old one, but a regular new grater will do, as long as it is metal);
  • Patina for metal (for artificial aging of the grater);
  • Small cutting board or just a wooden board;
  • Wooden die (for the bottom of the grater);
  • Glue.

Instructions:

  1. Following the manufacturer's instructions, cover the grater with a metal patina, for example, green as in this master class.

  1. Install a wooden bottom in the inside. It must first be cut to the size of the upper part of the grater. As a rule, at the top of the grater there are protrusions from metal handles; it is on them that the bottom will be attached.
  2. Screw the grater to the board using self-tapping screws, after making holes in it with a nail and hammer.
  3. Place the board on the wall near the sink, hang a towel on the handle, and put your spatulas, ladles or flowers inside.

Idea 12. Flower vase

Glass bottles for wine, milk or other drinks are almost ready-made vases that are just waiting to be painted with acrylic paints and/or trimmed.

A dish drainer is a necessary item in the kitchen. It not only allows you to dry plates, cups and other utensils, but also serves as a storage place for dishes that are constantly used. Therefore, kitchen appliance manufacturers offer various designs dryers

Types of dryers

Dryers are divided into several categories depending on their design features, material and place where this device is installed.

Built-in

Traditional designs include dryers that are installed in a wall cabinet in a kitchen unit, suspended above the sink sink. Although such a design option can also be mounted in floor cabinets, if such a solution for organizing the drying of dishes was supplied to the furniture design developers by the customer. Built-in type dryers can be straight or angular. The last option is made for corner wall cabinets.

In this case, dryer designs can be stationary or retractable. Simple models have two tiers: the bottom for plates and the top for mugs and cups. A tray for draining water must be installed at the bottom. Manufacturers offer models where there is a pallet under each tier. This is the best option for a built-in dish dryer. It costs a little more, but from a practical point of view it is better.

Today in stores you can find dish dryers with a complex design, which have several compartments for different utensils. For example, dryers are equipped with additional compartments for glasses, spoons and forks.

Speaking about the pros and cons of this model, it should be noted that in design terms this option is the optimal one. The dryer is not visible because it is hidden kitchen fronts. But there is also a negative side to this device: the humidity inside the cabinet is always high, which negatively affects the quality of the kitchen set. It is the cabinet where the dish dryer is located that fails the fastest. Therefore, this variety is recommended to be used as an auxiliary element. That is, the dishes in it need to be dried when the water has already drained from it. To ensure good ventilation, craftsmen make holes in the back wall. Sometimes facades are shortened at the bottom by inserting decorative lattice.

Tabletop

There is a huge variety of design solutions in this category. Since this device is always visible, manufacturers try to pay great attention to the design of the dryer. Today the market offers one-, two- and three-tier designs, with or without additional compartments for cutlery. There are stationary, folding and retractable models. There are different sizes of dryers: compact and large.

The place of permanent installation is the sink or countertop next to the sink. Depending on the design of the kitchen, especially the sink, you should select tabletop dryers so that they do not stand out from the overall interior concept of the room.

If the kitchen sink is located next to a window, or there is no wall cabinet above it, then the dryer installed next to it will be open to dust. Therefore, it is recommended to look for a dryer with a lid in stores. Most often this plastic product with plastic tray.

Mounted

These are lattice structures that are attached to the wall with rails or installed inside a wall cabinet. There is a small assortment in this category, because most often such models are single-tier. It is better to hang such devices on the wall. Their installation is determined by installing the brackets that come with the device; they are secured to the wall above the sink using self-tapping screws and plastic dowels. After which the mesh is installed on two brackets.

Mounted models with hooks are attached to the roof rails. Dish dryers are selected based on the amount of free space. Dryers of a removable design can also be installed on the internal surfaces of kitchen doors.

Number of levels

Single-level dryers are inconvenient because they place all the dishes on one plane without disassembling them. And if the family is large, then there may not be enough space. That's why optimal solution for any kitchen - multi-level designs. Most often, dryers have two levels, so large dishes can be placed separately from small items. In this case, you need to select models that will fit the largest plates. Therefore, the best option is designs with height-adjustable tiers.

Dryer Troflex

This type of dish dryer is a mesh, lattice or perforated board. They are made of stainless steel or plastic. This device is installed directly on the sink, on one of its bowls. It is not attached to anything, but rests with its edges on the edges of the bowl. In this case, the water flows directly into the sink. In addition, you can put not only dishes on such a drying rack, but also washed vegetables and fruits.

This device is always at hand. After use, wipe it dry and place it next to the sink or put it in the drawer of the kitchen cabinet. Manufacturers offer Troflexes in the form of a rolling mat, which is assembled from silicone or plastic rods. These models come in different colors, so choose required product matching the kitchen design will not be difficult. But in any case, such dryers do not carry a design burden; they are invisible and light in weight.

Dryer selection criteria

There are several items that you should pay attention to when buying a kitchen dryer.

Materials

There is little variety here, because the main requirement for the materials from which dish dryers are made is strength and moisture resistance. Therefore, manufacturers offer devices made from the following materials.

  • Steel products coated with chrome or enamel. The first option is better because chrome plating is a layer with long-term use. In this regard, enameled structures lose. Unfortunately, the enamel does not withstand frequent shock loads, which is common for a dryer.
  • Made of stainless steel. Expensive model, but with a long service life. In addition, such a dryer will require special maintenance.
  • Plastic ones are the cheapest, but light and bright products. Unfortunately, they do not have a long service life. The products are made of durable plastic, but there are also very cheap devices on the market that will not last even a year.
  • Wooden. Wood is often used as a material for making dryers. It is coated with special water-repellent compounds, so it copes well with water and moisture. True, manufacturers recommend periodically coating wooden devices with protective mixtures to extend their service life. In addition, wood fits perfectly into any kitchen interior design.

Pallets are made of stainless steel or plastic. Both materials have virtually no wear life. In addition, they are hygienic and easy to clean.

Size range

The dryer option in terms of size is small the lineup, which is determined by the range of 40-80 centimeters with a gradation of 10 centimeters. And the larger the size, the more dishes will fit on the dryer. For example, only 12 plates fit on a drying rack 40 centimeters long. And for a device 60 centimeters long – already 18.

However, some models have standard sizes. For example, the dimensions of built-in structures, or, more precisely, their width, are determined by the width of the wall cabinet. It has a standard size of 60 centimeters. Although designers claim that 60 centimeters is optimal size and for desktop designs.

When choosing a multi-tiered model, you need to pay attention to the distance between the levels. It should not be less than 30 centimeters; this will allow you to install plates with a larger diameter on the lower tier. Devices longer than 60 centimeters are made with two pallets. The latter must be removable or retractable.

Alternative option

The dish drainer does not necessarily have a wire rack or mesh. Today, rugs with dimensions of 30x40 or 50x60 centimeters have appeared on the market. They are spread out near the sink and wet dishes are placed on them. As soon as the water has drained, the dishes are put on the shelves, and the rug is rolled up and put in a drawer.

Today, manufacturers offer rugs made from different materials:

  • Rubber, silicone, plastic with a ribbed or corrugated surface. Water collects between the ribs, which can be easily drained and the mat dried or wiped dry.
  • Fabric, which includes fiber from synthetic fibers. Such rugs absorb moisture, after which they have to be dried. But in terms of workmanship and service life, they are not inferior to models from the first category.

Rules for installing a dryer in a closet

Installing a dish dryer with your own hands means choosing the right one for the size of the cabinet. Since its standard depth is 30 centimeters, the device is selected in accordance with the resulting size indicator. In this case, a dryer with a width of 28 centimeters is purchased, the remaining two centimeters are left for closing the cabinet doors.

There is a wide variety of designs for built-in dryers, therefore, they are mounted inside the cabinet in different ways. Here it is important to install the fasteners exactly at the level, and then put meshes or gratings on them. That's why kitchen sets, which go on sale or are made to order, come to the customer or buyer with the dryer already assembled inside. But if the task is to install a dish dryer in a cabinet that is already hanging assembled, then you will have to make an effort:

  • First of all, the installation level of the device is determined. To do this, you need to assemble it and insert it into the cabinet, holding it with your hands. Thus, a height convenient for operation is established. The device is now removed and disassembled.
  • The fasteners are attached to the side walls, so even at the fitting stage, marks are made on the sides with a marker for the places where the screws will be attached.
  • The brackets are attached to them using self-tapping screws that come with the dryer. The main thing is that the fasteners are located at the same horizontal level.

As for the installation of wall-mounted models, first of all, as in the previous case, you should decide on the installation height.

  • A horizontal line is drawn along the height with a marker, to which one of the two brackets is applied so that its mounting hole, located above, coincides with the line marked on the wall.
  • The bracket is installed exactly vertically, after which two points are placed on the wall through the holes.
  • From a point on the line to the right or left, depending on where the dryer is installed, the width of the device is plotted, where dots are also placed.
  • Now holes are drilled into them, into which plastic dowels are driven.
  • All that remains is to attach the brackets to the mounting location and tighten them with self-tapping screws to the wall surface.
  • The last step is to place the nets or gratings on the brackets.

The dryer is assembled strictly according to the instructions that the manufacturers attach to the accompanying documents.

Homemade dryers

Designers also offer homemade version dryers for the kitchen. Easiest to do wooden crafts, rather than metal structures, because wood is easier to process. One of original options- pencil dryer.

To do this, you will need a regular or cutting board with several holes drilled. The latter should be arranged in rows to indicate where the dishes should be installed. Pencils are inserted into the holes, the ends of which are pre-coated with glue. In this case, the installation must be carried out so that the free ends of the pencils are located at the same level, as shown in the photo below.

Such a dryer will become not only a decorative element, but also a practical device. A dryer is also assembled from wooden hangers on which clothes are hung. The design is not as simple as with pencils, but its appearance is more aesthetic. Here you will need an accurate calculation and additional fasteners in the form four wooden screed The photo below shows such an original homemade dryer.

Conclusion on the topic

Thus, kitchen dryers differ from each other in shape, design and size. Therefore choose suitable option it's not that simple. In this case, it is recommended to decide on the dimensions and materials, and only then decide on the shape based on the number of tiers. In some places, the dryer can be inconvenient, so it is recommended to think through everything in advance.
