How to properly install a ridge on a metal tile. How to make a ridge on the roof. Formation of the ridge rib

Ridge for metal tiles – important element decor that has irreplaceable practical value: protection of the roof and the material under it from precipitation, thermal insulation and ventilation of the roof. This term is also called wooden beam, fastening the slopes at the junction. However, today we will look at the first option - a coating to eliminate the gap between metal tiles. Installing any ridge on a metal tile is almost the final stage in roof construction. But at the same time quite responsible, because from correct installation The safety of the entire roof depends.

Main varieties of skate

To understand how to attach a ridge to a metal tile, you should consider existing varieties, corresponding to the types of roofs themselves.

  1. Straight (rectangular). Planks for this type are easier to install, they are much cheaper than the options below, however, they are much inferior to them in aesthetics. Preferred for simple gable and hip roofs. A straight ridge requires a sealing lining so as not to lose its thermal insulation properties. Somewhat limited in additional features by the manufacturers themselves. There are simple and figured straight skates.
  2. Semicircular. Almost universal. In addition to its interesting appearance, it differs only in the installation of special plugs that protect the free space between the materials from dirt, dust, and small debris.
  3. Mortise and intersection. Highly specialized materials for hip and half-hip roofs. The first ones cut into the slopes, while the second ones are located horizontally and do not have a characteristic angle. Often their geometry is used to create a roof drain.
  4. Decorative models. They can be of absolutely any shape. As the name suggests, these planks do not fully fulfill all construction needs. However, they are an excellent architectural solution on many types of buildings.
    1. A ventilated ridge for metal tiles is the key to a long service life of the materials. Due to the temperature difference between the space under the roofing material and external environment, condensation is inevitable. Since the main “skeleton” of the roof consists of wood, the consequences of this can be tragic.

It would be better to choose roofing material, ridge and additional metal parts (drains, abutment strips, end and cornice strip, valley and its overlay) from one manufacturer.

  1. You will certainly be sure that the colors match. In addition, most popular manufacturers initially prepare such construction “kits”, designed in the same style and fully compatible with each other with fastening systems.
  2. The difference between semicircular and rectangular functional features are insignificant, so there is no point in spending extra money in the absence of increased requirements for appearance Houses.
  3. Installing a ridge on a metal tile is not a complicated process, but it is very precise: any gap can lead to extraordinary financial losses in the future.

Additional materials

First, we need a seal that fills all the empty space between the metal tile strips and the wooden beams.

There are three main types: universal, profile and self-expanding.

The first is designed for lasting protection, sufficient ventilation and filtration of dust and small debris. The second is when ventilation is more important than protection from moisture. The third is relevant in areas where there is constant precipitation. How to choose the right sealant for metal tiles? It all depends on the area, manufacturer’s recommendations, and personal preferences. The main rule is that you should not skimp on the sealant.

Secondly, the ridge tape is a waterproofing element. The mounted ridge experiences temperature changes every day and, as a result, moisture accumulation in its cavity.

Thirdly, the ventilation strip. The main purpose is to create a through space for roof ventilation.

Stages of installing a ridge on a metal tile

To install the entire metal roof, it is advisable to have at least one assistant, since the work is meticulous and requires increased attention from the builder.

Before installation, you should make sure that the line at the junction of the slopes is even (up to 2 cm).

Possible “deviations from the norm” will significantly reduce the service life of the skate.

  1. We calculate the required number of slats using the simple formula N=Lс.÷(Lп. – А), where Lс. – length of all slopes in mm, Lп. is the length of one plank, and A is the overlap of the planks at the joints (from 5 to 10). It is important that the length of the strip is not less than 15 cm. Otherwise, making a fatal mistake and there will be no point in carrying out complex installation.
  2. We install the seal. It should not be compacted, otherwise the roof will lose ventilation. We can also use ordinary glass wool for these purposes.
  3. Let's try on the first extreme bar of the skate. It should be installed as level as possible. As they say, measure seven times. Next, you need to secure the structure with self-tapping screws with rubber or rubberized heads.
  4. Using a stretched rope along the joint of the slopes, create a horizontal level, under which all other elements of the ridge will be leveled.
  5. We continue fastening the ridge of the metal tile with an overlap, aligning each subsequent element with twine. When screwing, we make the pitch of the screws 5-6 cm to prevent the ridge elements from “slapping” in particularly windy weather.
  6. At the very end, all the plugs included in the kit are installed into the fixed material.
    High-quality installation of the ridge of metal tiles can extend the life of the house by ten years, and, if a residential attic or attic is planned, protection from heavy rains is perhaps the main task of the entire roof.

A roof covered with metal tiles is a fairly common option in modern private construction. After all, this material is durable, attractive in design, affordable price, high reliability and ease of installation. Such qualities make the sheet metal tiles practically the main type of coating that is chosen today for flooring industrial facilities, private mansions, for covering roofs on garages, as well as on many other commercial and residential buildings. However, in addition to the tiles themselves, users must purchase a number of components for installation that allow them not only to give the roof a complete, presentable look, but also to make it more resistant to weather conditions, much more durable, or as functional as possible. It is these elements that include the roof ridge, that is, the final part of the entire roofing system. There are several types of roof ridge made of metal tiles, distinguished by configuration and mounting option. It is worth considering in detail what types of ridge elements there are and what determines the choice of a particular product.

Types of roof ridge

In the design of a roofing system, a ridge is a horizontal element located at the upper junction of two adjacent roof slopes. However, it can be part rafter system, but also in the form of a separate additional element. It is worth keeping in mind that not all roofs have such a part. For example, for roofs of this type such as domed, hipped or bulbous, a roof ridge is not required, since the slopes in this case are connected at a single top point, and not in a straight line. It is also important to know that depending on the type of roof it may differ required amount skates In particular, for a gable roof, only one such element is sufficient, but for roofing systems of a more complex design, two or more products will be required.

The ridge for metal tiles is made from the same material as the roof covering. This is thin sheet metal coated with a layer of polymer. It is worth selecting this additional element with characteristics identical to the main flooring. In many ways, it is the ridge that provides suitable operating conditions, since it allows for the organization of full ventilation, that is, through the formed channel, moist air comes out of the under-roof space, but at the same time, street dust, large debris, precipitation, and insects cannot get inside. The modern construction market offers a wide variety of ridge models, differing in form and functionality. The following varieties are considered the most popular:

  • simple or angular, that is, in the shape of an open triangle;
  • semicircular;
  • raised;
  • conical;
  • rib;
  • flat or U-shaped.
  • Each variety has its own characteristics, so before choosing a specific option, it is worth considering in detail all types of roofing ridges. The most popular types are triangular, flat and semicircular.

    Characteristics of a semicircular skate

    The peculiarity of this type of ridge is that it perfectly complements a roof made of metal tiles, making it almost identical to a roof made on the basis of natural tiles. The semicircular ridge for metal tiles is fixed at the top point, at the junction of two opposite slopes. To prevent debris or precipitation from entering the end part, special plugs are provided. Most often, a product of this type is mounted on hip roofs, on which the junctions of the slopes are clearly visible from the ground. That is, in this case, the ridge is not just a connecting and protective element for the slopes, but also performs decorative function. The standard length of the element is 2 m. When choosing such products, users should know that the semicircular ridge of metal tiles will have a higher cost than other analogues. This is due to the fact that more metal is required for its manufacture, while the skate itself is considered the most durable and reliable. To ensure that the color of the ridge element matches the tone of the roofing, it is recommended to order the strip along with the metal tiles from the same company.

    Flat or U-shaped ridge

    Can be used for roofing systems itself different types. Its cost is somewhat less than a semicircular product, since a flat or, as it is also called, a figured skate is easier to produce and less material is required for it. It is also worth keeping in mind that such a ridge for metal tiles is not equipped with plugs, that is, there is no need for them.

    Triangular roof ridge

    The simplest version of the skate looks like it is bent at an angle of 90 degrees. The standard height of each side is 160-200 mm, and the length varies from 1.6 to 2 m. The product is low cost, but also low decorative. Most often, it is mounted on roofs of a simple configuration.

    As a rule, when purchasing a ridge strip, users also purchase all the necessary components. The standard kit includes fasteners, sealing washers, plugs, and so on; the specific kit may vary depending on the type of skate. If the manufacturer does not provide the ridge and fasteners in one set, it is necessary to select parts of the same type as the roofing covering and the ridge itself. However, in addition to the listed components, it is also worth taking care of purchasing products such as a seal. We should talk in more detail about how to attach a ridge to a metal tile and, first of all, it is important to understand what types of seals are available and how to choose them.

    Roof ridge seals

    A ridge seal is a tape product that is installed under the ridge strip and prevents moisture, dust or insects from entering the under-roof space. Since this element must perform protective functions for many years and under the most different conditions, then you should choose it as responsibly as possible. The ridge seal must be of high quality, as well as a suitable configuration for the specific ridge. Today there are three main types of special seals on the market:

    • universal;
    • profile;
    • self-expanding.

    As you can understand from the names, universal products are suitable for skates of any configuration. The product is made on the basis of polyurethane film and has a self-adhesive base, that is, to install it you only need to remove the protective layer and press the seal tightly to the installation site. Another special feature of the product is that it does not support combustion and can be attached to almost any base. The main purpose of the universal seal is to act as a filter against debris, insects and dust.

    Profile seals are made of foamed polyethylene. Their main feature is that they are developed for a specific metal tile profile, that is, for each type of wave, its own seal is produced, which is not suitable for metal tiles with a different profile. Therefore, when purchasing, it is important to pay attention to this moment. In general, such a seal does an excellent job of protecting the under-roof space from moisture, while it allows air to pass through, which means it can become one of the elements ventilation system.

    Self-expanding seals are made on the basis of polyurethane foam impregnated with acrylic or other types of polymers. The peculiarity of the product is that after installation the ridge tape increases in size, covering all existing voids. This property allows you to reliably seal all the cracks between the ridge strip and the metal tile-based coating, resulting in the formation reliable protection from precipitation, dust, debris, insects and so on.

    All types of seals reliably seal the gap between the ridge and the covering, due to which the roof space is protected from moisture and dust, but at the same time air also passes through the seal material quite easily. It is worth noting that no matter what type of sealing product the user chooses, it is installed quite simply. However, depending on the material of production, products may differ in price, as well as service life, read additional information in the material:. To secure the ridge for metal tiles according to all the rules, you must first of all calculate the ridge strip.

    Calculation of the roof ridge and its installation

    You can calculate the height of the ridge for a house using the formula H = 0.5 × B × K, which includes parameters such as B - the width of the house and K - a coefficient depending on. The specific value of the coefficient should be calculated using a special table. For example, with a slope of 5 degrees, this coefficient will be 0.08, and with a slope of 45 degrees, the coefficient will be 1. That is, the calculation for a house whose width is 6 m, and the planned slope angle of 35 degrees, will look like this: H=0.5x6x0.79. In this case, the height of the ridge will be equal to 2.37 m. To calculate the number of ridge strips, use the formula N=L s ÷(L p – 10), where L s is the length of the slope, and L p is the length of the ridge. The number indicates the size of the overlap in mm; as a rule, 10 mm is optimal for installation, but installation can also be carried out with an overlap of 5 mm. It is worth knowing that when choosing a ridge strip, it is advisable to choose a product whose upper part is at least 15 cm wide, since with a smaller parameter, the ridge will not effectively cope with the function of protection from precipitation.

Nowadays, metal roofing is in great demand, as it is reliable and durable coating. Choosing this material is the right decision. The system of such a coating includes the material itself and complementary elements. A significant element of the roof is the ridge, which provides roof ventilation.

Skate types

According to its design characteristics, the skate is divided into the following types:

  • Additional strip
  • Semicircular ridge
  • Mortise ridge
  • Y and T skates or crossed
  • Decorative ridge

Ridge strip or rectangular ridge, used to cover joints roofing material any type and a good decorative addition to the roof. The ridge elements can be matched to the color of the metal tile, which will have a good effect on the integrity of the roof.

The semicircular ridge is used in a similar way; it is also mounted at the joints of gable and four pitched roofs, but special plugs are installed at the ends to prevent the entry of debris and moisture.

The principle of installing a mortise ridge is slightly different from the previous ones, in that it cuts into the roof slope, and its horizontal part is located below the main one.

Narrow decorative ridges are used more for aesthetic rather than protective finishing. They are mainly installed on spiers, hipped roofs or gazebos.

The crossed ridge, or Y and T-shaped, is an additional element of a rectangular ridge strip and is intended for attaching them to each other.

Accessories

If the choice fell in favor of a metal tile roof, then it is recommended to purchase all the ridge components and fasteners in one place and from one manufacturer.

The skate kit includes the following items:

  • Ventilation strip
  • Lightning rod holder
  • Sealant
  • Sealant
  • Additional aero elements

With the help of these parts, you can mount them efficiently and firmly, as well as fasten the ridge elements and ensure reliable functionality after that.

Sealant

An important element when installing a ridge is the seal, which has a protective function against the penetration of precipitation, debris and dust under the roof.

If the seal was installed poorly or was deformed, then such a roof will leak, which will negatively affect the operation and its condition.

Specialized stores and construction markets are pleased to offer several types of seals:

  • Universal
  • Self-expanding
  • Profile

The self-expanding seal includes polyurethane foam, which is impregnated with polymer compounds such as acrylic. The main purpose is to close top part edges of the roofing sheets and firmly connect the roof slopes, thereby providing additional.

The profile seal is made of a foamed polyethylene composition, which is resistant to moisture, but is capable of allowing air to pass through; thanks to these qualities, it is widely used for roof ventilation systems. This material has its own characteristics - it repeats the configuration of the roofing shape, which has a beneficial effect on sealing.

In the manufacture of universal seals, a polyurethane film is used, which is capable of filtering dust and debris, and at the same time does not allow air to pass under the roof.

It is recommended to install seals after fastening the metal tiles, between the ridge and the roofing material. It is especially important for roofs with a hipped slope and areas where the ridge is installed diagonally in relation to the roof.

Tools used when installing the roof and ridge:

  • For cutting metal products use mechanical hand shears for metal
  • Fine tooth saw
  • Electric jigsaw
  • Circular Saw

We must not forget that after cutting sheets of metal, it is necessary to sweep away sawdust, which can subsequently rust and damage the coating.

Fastening the ridge of metal tiles

  1. Before installation, the first thing you need to do is make sure that the ridge axis is level - this is the junction of the entire upper edge of the roof. But if there is a slight curvature (up to 2 cm is allowed), it will not affect the installation of the skate, but if there are more maximum deviations, they need to be corrected
  2. A layer of glass wool is placed in the ridge grooves; this will protect the roof from snow blown into the roof by the wind. winter period. But it is important not to overdo it, otherwise you may interfere with ventilation.
  3. It will not be possible to cope with the installation alone, so you will need at least two people. Next, to lift the skate, the first assistant must give one end of the skate, and then the other must help pick up the opposite end
  4. Next, you need to lay the ridge on the outer edge of the roof, exactly along the edge of the metal tile. In this case, proportions must be respected and unnecessary vertical gaps must not be allowed.
  5. On the opposite side, an assistant should control the edge of the element so that there is no distortion with respect to the axis
  6. If the ridge has been installed correctly, it must be secured with screws along the outer edge. Next, a cord is stretched along which the inner sides of the ridge corners will be aligned and fixed. By pulling the cord, it is secured to the edge of the skate at the zero point
  7. The next step will be the installation of the remaining planks at this level
  8. When attaching a ridge to a metal tile, the screws should not be screwed in often, but nevertheless, periodically you need to check the corners so that they do not come loose

Installation diagram of the ridge of metal tiles
  • A ridge that does not have a trim is not rigid enough and does not look aesthetically pleasing after installation.
  • Before preparing the material, it is necessary to calculate the required amount, but taking into account an overlap of 5 cm
  • When starting roofing work, you need to prepare a ladder and insurance, and pre-prepare the following materials: construction cord, screws, screwdriver

For ease of installation, it is better to carry out the work with two or three people, since moving on the roof is very difficult.

After installing the ridge, you can proceed to installing other elements. You can implement. This element on the roof ensures safe snow removal. They are also necessary to prevent the roof from deforming under the mass of icy snow.

Installation skylights in metal tiles must be done before installing the ridge. Incorrect installation or poor waterproofing of such windows will negate all efforts to build a roof. Take on the installation of roof windows the better who already has experience in construction work, and only if they follow the instructions and rules.

Video about installing the ridge of metal tiles

The video clearly shows the procedure for installing the ridge.

Metal tiles are almost identical in appearance to natural ceramic tiles.

However, it is made from profiled metal sheet with protective polymer coating.

This feature greatly reduces the cost of this roofing material and simplifies its installation and maintenance.

In addition, there is a wide range of different accessories, including roof ridges, which makes it easy even realize complex projects for roof installation.

The roof ridge made of metal tiles is the most upper roof structure, mounted along the line of intersection of its slopes. Its purpose is to perform several functions:

  1. Waterproofing the joint roof slopes . Since some space inevitably remains on the converging slopes of the roof between the top sheets of metal tiles, this place needs to be protected from moisture penetration. The curved shape of the ridge allows you to cover the gap between the slopes, thereby preventing moisture from getting inside.
  2. . When the air temperature changes, condensation may form on the back side of the metal tile. This moisture can lead to both corrosion of the metal of the roofing material itself and wetness of the material located below. If there is a ridge, the condensed water has the opportunity to evaporate and be removed along with the flow of air heated under the metal.
  3. Decor. Roofing ridges are available in a variety of shapes and colors, which allows them to be used as decorative elements. In addition, the presence of a ridge gives the roof a finished look.

Structurally, the ridge is metal strip, which is given a certain profile. Like metal tiles, ridge elements have protective covering from polymer materials or paint.

They can be painted either to match the stingrays or in shades that contrast with them. There is a flange along the edges of the ridge, which simplifies the joint with the sheets of the main roofing covering.

The kit, in addition to the ridge strip itself, includes the following:

  • side caps to prevent debris from getting under the roof;
  • fastenings;
  • sealing washers to ensure .

On roofs of complex shapes, joining elements are additionally used, which make it possible to hermetically join several lines of the upper edges of the roof slopes.

Variety of shapes

The shape of the ridge profile does not have a noticeable effect on the performance of the roof. Therefore, when choosing the most optimal type, they focus more on design requirements.

On sale you can find ridge strips of several species:

  • rectangular. Due to the simplicity of the form and the least consumption of material, they are characterized by the lowest cost. Convenient for installation on any roof and no need to use end caps;
  • semicircular ridge for metal tiles. The main part of such a skate has a semicircular shape, the flanges are flat. After installation, large holes remain at the ends, which requires the use of plugs;
  • polygonal. They differ from semicircular ones only in their profile, composed of three, five or more planes;
  • round ridge of metal tiles;
  • narrow decorative. Used on hipped roofs, where the angle between the connecting slopes is minimal;
  • Y and T-shaped. Used at the joints of adjacent roofs.

Types of ridge strips

How to choose a seal for a ridge and how to seal it correctly

Installing a seal between the metal tile and the ridge allows you to reliably seal the joint without the risk of damaging the material. There are two types of seal under the ridge of metal tiles:

  • special ridge seal , the tape of which repeats the shape of a sheet of metal tiles. Made from polyurethane foam or polyethylene foam. It has through holes for ventilation;
  • universal seal. It has a rectangular cross-section, but due to the elasticity of the material (polyurethane foam) it can be used with metal tiles of any profile. When purchasing this seal, you need to check whether its height corresponds to the depth of the metal tile relief.

How to choose a seal for the ridge of metal tiles? When choosing a seal, you should pay attention to the technology of its fastening. Some samples are equipped with a self-adhesive strip, and some require additional adhesive, purchased separately.

NOTE!

It is unacceptable to use porous materials not intended for these purposes as a sealant. They will accumulate moisture and lead to roof corrosion.

When sealing a seam, individual sealant strips are laid end-to-end, without overlapping each other.

How to calculate the height and length of the ridge strip for metal tiles

The height of the plank depends on the angle at which the roof slopes meet. For gable roofs is typical between slopes, so the height of the ridge strip shelves should be taken no less than 15 cm.

This will ensure reliable waterproofing. On hipped roofs, the joint angle is smaller and it is permissible to use ridge strips of lower height.

The length of the ridge is selected equal to the length of the roof. However, it is worth considering that if the length of one plank is not enough, adjacent planks are joined with an overlap of 10 cm.

Now let's talk about how to attach a ridge to a metal tile.

Installation of a ridge on a metal tile

Installation of a ridge on a metal tile is carried out in several stages:

  1. Check straightness the upper sections of the roof slopes. Deviation from a straight line should not exceed 20 mm.
  2. In ridge grooves seal is glued.
  3. The ridge strip is placed at the junction of the slopes flush with one of the side cuts.
  4. The symmetry of the ridge overlap is checked. Fastening the ridge of the metal tile begins from the center; it must coincide with the central axis of the roof, marked in advance with a stretched cord. It is highly desirable at this stage to have an assistant controlling the position of the skate from the opposite end.
  5. The end of the ridge is screwed to the metal tile with self-tapping screws.
  6. Screw in the screws along the entire length of the ridge strip. The fastening points should be on the upper wave of the metal tile profile. Step - through one or two waves.
  7. Adjacent planks are joined with an overlap of at least 10 cm
  8. If necessary, side plugs are installed.

How to install a skate with your own hands

What other elements of metal tiles are there?

Having completed the installation of the ridge, proceed to the installation of the roof: valleys and snow retainers.

The endow is intended for tight joining of connecting roof slopes and its installation is almost no different from the installation of a ridge.

Can be various types, differing both in capabilities and method of fastening.

In any case, the points of their installation under the roof must be equipped with additional stiffening ribs - bars.

Installing a ridge strip yourself will not cause serious difficulties if its dimensions and shape have been selected correctly. In addition, it is extremely undesirable to neglect the quality of the sealing tape, the properties of which determine the service life of both the ridge itself and the entire roof as a whole.

Installing a ridge for metal tiles with your own hands:

A metal tile roof consists not only of a covering formed from sheets of material, but also of additional accessories and elements. And if some of them (for example, fencing structures, transition bridges, etc.) are installed at will, then the ridge elements are a mandatory part of any roofing system. Let's consider how to install the ridge of metal tiles, because proper installation of this element has a significant impact on the reliability of the roofing.

Builders use the beautiful term “roof ridge” to designate the topmost element of the roof, which is installed at the intersection of the slopes. Skate decoration was always enough challenging task, as this is a potential leak site.

But today roofing The design of the roof ridge has become much easier, since manufacturers of roofing materials offer special additional elements that can be quite simply installed on the ridge board.

What is a skate?

The ridge is the top edge of the roof, which is the horizontal line of intersection of the slopes. The ridge is used to organize ventilation of the space under the roof, as well as to protect against leaks.

Ridge elements for metal tiles are an additional element made from a profiled metal sheet in the form of an outer corner. To prevent moisture from getting under the ridge, its edges are flanged in the form of pressed metal bends inward, 1.5 cm each.

Ridge elements are sold complete with the necessary accessories and installation parts. The package includes sealing washers and fasteners. Ridge elements are made from the same material as the main covering. Moreover, they are made different colors and shapes, so you can always choose parts that perfectly match the color and architectural style of any roof.

Advice! Properly selected and correctly installed ridge elements are almost invisible on the roof. Such elements are installed, as a rule, complete with ventilation elements.

What types of ridge elements are there?

Most often, the following types of skates are used:

  • A straight or rectangular ridge is suitable for various types of pitched roofs. Installs without special plugs.
  • The semicircular ridge is also suitable for pitched roofs. It has better decorative qualities than straight elements, but is somewhat more expensive, since it requires the installation of plugs for installation on the gable parts.
  • Narrow ridge elements. This element performs a decorative rather than a protective function. It is used for arranging hip-type roofs, decorating spiers or in the construction of gazebos or canopies.
  • Curved ridges are available in the shape of the letters T or Y. These are additional parts that are used to secure rectangular ridge elements at the junction points.

Advice! For installation on the gable ends of the sheathing, special elements are used - gable or wind strips.

Additional parts for the ridge

To install the ridge, additional parts and elements are used.

Advice! Having decided on the type of roofing material, you should immediately find out the possibility of purchasing from the same seller all the necessary additional elements and fasteners for them.

Parts needed to install ridge elements:

  • Ridge ventilation strip;
  • Ventilation tape;
  • Ridge seal;
  • Lightning rod holder.

In addition, additional aero elements and sealant - bitumen or silicone - may be required to decorate the ridge. As for seals, today you can purchase this element in three versions. This can be universal, profile or self-expanding seals.

Universal seals are made from foamed polyurethane; this type of seal functions like a regular filter. Profile seals are made from foamed modified polyethylene. A self-expanding cord is made of polyurethane foam, which is impregnated with acrylic. As a rule, all seals are produced with a self-adhesive edge, which greatly simplifies the installation process.

Ridge installation

Let's look at how ridge elements are installed. Work begins only after the laying of the main coating is completely completed. To carry out the work, you will need the same tools that are used when laying the main coating, these are:

  • Screwdriver with attachment for roofing screws;
  • Tape measure, marker (chalk), rule for marking;

Advice! It is recommended that two people work on installing ridge elements; it is necessary to install a ladder on the roof in advance and use insurance to ensure the safety of workers.

  • To install the ridge elements, it is recommended to install an additional beam; the cross-section of this part must be at least 70 by 90 mm.
  • After installing the central beam, two sheathing beams are attached to either side of it.
  • Next, the ridge beam is installed, which is attached to the central beam. If semicircular ridge elements are installed, then before installing this part it is recommended to slightly round off its upper part. This will ensure a tighter fit of the elements to the beam.
  • To prevent the development of mold, it is recommended to treat wooden parts with special impregnations before installation. For additional protection, you can paint the timber or cover it with roofing felt.
  • A sealant is stuffed onto the ridge beam and a special ventilation tape is placed on top.
  • Having completed preparatory work, you should once again make sure that the ridge axis is sufficiently level. The curvature tolerance is no more than 2 cm.
  • The installation of ridge elements should begin from one of the ends of the roof. In this case, the edge of the end ridge element must protrude beyond the edge of the end beam by 2-3 cm
  • When laying a rectangular ridge, the elements are installed with an overlap of 10 cm wide. If you plan to install a semicircular ridge, then the joining is done along the stamping lines.
  • To prevent distortion when installing ridge strips, it is necessary to tighten the cord in advance.
  • Ridge elements are attached to the roof covering using self-tapping screws. It is recommended to use two self-tapping screws to fasten one element; they need to be screwed into the crest of the wave of the already laid coating. The pitch of the screws should not be more than 80 cm. It is necessary to screw in the hardware closer to the corners, otherwise when strong wind the roof covering will produce annoying “popping” sounds.
  • To prevent snow from getting under the ridge, it is recommended to install roofing rollers between the planks roofing element and metal roof covering.
  • The ends of the semicircular ridge elements are closed with plugs, and all joints between the elements are treated with sealant.

The roof ridge is an important element that simultaneously performs two functions - protective and decorative. Therefore it is very important installation work to install this element correctly.
